Plan for a weekend bar crawl with a group of friends to make memories that will last a lifetime and start at the north or south end of the hills. Anyone can participate, but those drinking alcohol must be 21 or older, and don’t forget to book safe travels throughout the hills if you are consuming; maybe the youngest in the group has to be your designated sober driver or you all split the cost of a Black Hills Party Bus, Lyft, or transportation for everyone. (View a list here.)
On the north end of the Black Hills, start your celebration at the Spearfish Creek Wine Bar (127 W. Grant St., Spearfish) and split the cost of your first beer or wine with your best friend or significant other with the buy one, get one half-off coupon. With 11 rotating beers on tap and a wide variety of wines, begin your bar crawl with a local favorite or explore new flavors on your own.
“People are really big into IPAs; our top seller is definitely Lost Cabin Bruce Banner APA, one we try to always keep on tap. We keep a variety of beer on tap, so everyone has something they like,”Allison McDaniel, owner of Spearfish Creek Wine Bar, shares.
“As far as wine, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir seem to be our most popular,” she continues.” J Lohr Cab and Layer Cake Bourbon Barrel Cab are big sellers, as well as Bread and Butter Pinot Noir.”
The next stop on the list is a quaint pub in historic Deadwood. Paddy O’Neill’s Irish Pub (555 Main St., Deadwood) has a great atmosphere with more than 10 large screen HDTVs, an extensive selection of microbrews, plus fine whiskeys, wine, cocktails and Guinness mixes. Between 4 and 7 p.m you can buy one drink and get one of equal or lesser value free using your coupon from the 2020 Black Hills Coupon Book.
Don’t forget to eat! Food will help absorb the alcohol and keep you on your toes throughout the evening of fun. At the 445 Martini Lounge (445 Mt. Rushmore Rd., Rapid City) in Rapid City, get a free appetizer when you purchase two martinis or two bourbon drinks!
Pro tip: Plan the trip around happy hour for cheaper beverages, but double-check your coupons to make sure they will still apply!
